I bought these for an upcoming holiday, on the strength of other reviews I’d seen. I have to say, the word that I keep seeing in association with these flip flops is “comfortable” and they’re not wrong.
I have two other paid of flip flops, one from a fairly well known maker and one cheap pair. The cheap ones have never been good; they’re ok for nipping down the garden to the shed quickly and that’s about as much as I wear them. The other pair took a while to bed in but are now at that stage where they’re comfortable but starting to show signs of age.
The Gumbies, however, felt comfortable from the moment I first tried them on; they feel as though they’re supporting the foot rather than just being a piece of foam you happen to be stood on.
So much so, I wear them around the house as slippers, and I haven’t worn slippers since I was a little kid. They seem well made; my other pair of flip flops has a denim material centre strap, which is fraying and constantly needs bits trimmed off it. The Gumbies centre strap looks like it’s made of sterner stuff. The fit is good too, there’s enough some around your foot you don’t feel like you’re treading right on the edge, but not so much you feel like you’re wearing snow shoes.
If I had one criticism, it’s that not enough of the designs are available in all sizes. Being a U.K. 13 finding flip flops isn’t always that easy, and although there are quite a few Gumbies available in 13, the ones I really liked; weren’t.
